Q: Why the need to cross train when all i want to do is surf?

Of course surfing comes first, but when we encounter a lull and a series of flat days (and lets be honest, there are several) then not only will 'cross training" prevent us from going a bit stir crazy, but a whole host of activities will complement our surfing and keep us as fit as possible for when we next have our surfing hit.

Fitness training is essential to help create a more balanced body. Activities like swimming, yoga, weight training, balance training and running, can all complement our surf fitness in more ways than one. It will help you get in better shape to handle the intensity of surfing, boosting strength, power, endurance, flexibility, mobility and agility leaving you with better board control, less fatigue, and fewer falls. It will also help avoid specific muscles being overused and decrease your chance of injury. Generally promoting all round good health, balance and performance.

Too much of one good thing can even end up a bit messy....
