Why Surf Fit ?
........So why would any surfer be reluctant to train to improve their surfing experience? Misconception perhaps?? It is not about sitting on a machine in a gym pushing heavy weights. That is dull, boring, un-functional and won't help your surfing one bit. The workout's should be functional to your sport (i.e. working the whole body, as one, in an integrated fashion specifically for surfing) to extend the quality and performance of your surfing, making you fitter, stronger and more flexible as well as helping prevent muscular imbalances and overuse injuries. Naturally, you just want to be in the water as much as possible but as much fun as surfing is, it places huge demands on the body. It creates great wear and tear on shoulders, low back, hip and knees, joints and muscles. It also creates muscle imbalances, where some muscles get to weak or too tight. Therefore proper strengthening and conditioning before you hit the water will prolong health resulting in better performance and less injury!
Everyone of you can benefit from training to be surf fit. Surf Fit will offer tips to help keep your body conditioned through strength training, endurance, power, balance, stability, agility, yoga and flexibility training. Remember training to be Surf Fit on days you are not in the water will ultimately boost your performance, progression and longevity in the water. If you need an excuse to go train, now you have one. Get fit, have fun and a bonus not only will you be ripping in the water, but your body will be getting pretty ripped too!!
Surfing Myth: The only way to get fit for surfing is just surf!!
Yes, partly true. The more you do the more radical you will get etc.etc., but going beyond the ocean and training the correct way for your sport will enhance your performance and help avoid injuries. Ask any athlete ...surfing is no different!!
