The 4 C's
Ever afraid of the big stuff? You know the days you are out back and you just feel a little outside your comfort zone. You know you are fit enough to cope, but mentally????? Or maybe you have just hit one of those niggling nasty moods that you can't seem to snap out of that just seems to be ruining your performance on that day.
Well this is all down to our thoughts and feelings and it can have a huge impact on our performance and whether we really have a good surf or not.
The 4 C's Concentration, confidence, control and commitment. Generally considered to be the main mental qualities that are important for successful performance in most sports.
Concentration - ability to maintain focus
Confidence - believe in one's abilities
Control - ability to maintain emotional control regardless of distraction
Commitment - ability to continue working to agreed goals
The techniques of relaxation, centering and mental imagery can assist an athlete to achieve the 4C's. Meditation, Tai Chi or Chi Qong are just some of the practised that can install the 4 C's that may determine whether we may win or not. Our performance is only as good as our beliefs. Believe in yourself!
